Get It Started

School is back in Session! Yayyyyyyy. J Now that's done

The other day I was speaking with a client. She was post surgical for cancer of the lung which was successfully removed. YAY! But her question to me was "why, during all the procedures, and different kinds of therapist treating me, was there no 'script for massage therapy. Your treatments make me feel better than any of those did." Unfortunately my answer wasn't a good one. Most physicians think Massage Therapy is a fluff treatment and not serious medicine. The research is out there to prove its effectiveness but physicians are not researchers, they are not pharmacological experts, and they don't want to be. They are human beings that like the bulk of humanity do their job out of repetition according to standards that will keep them out of trouble with lawsuits, the insurance companies and their bosses. The best I can offer to this point is for you to tell your physicians when MT helps, use physicians that are open to what you say and don't whisk out the door after your insurance allowed 7.5 minutes.

Speaking of insurance: For those of you that live in Florida you need to pay attention, close attention to the fact that our senate is "conveniently" letting our PIP coverage die off rather than reinstating it. You will no longer have medical coverage for accidents, unless you pay for it separately. It will save you about 15% on your bill but increase it 25% to cover med benefits - who wins? Take a guess! Just think of how quickly the list of patients will surge that are stuck with 25, 50, 100K or more in medical bills, and that doesn't cover care after you leave from the hospital, there will be an increase in lawsuits because that is the only way people can pay if they are not at fault and most will settle small and then suffer. What can you do? Contact your Florida state senate representative and tell him/her to keep PIP.

Lymphatic work never ceases to amaze me. In several clients I have seen results, some dramatic and some not so dramatic. Case 1 middle aged woman looses 16lbs of water weight in one week after one session. 2nd case, elderly man with large, nasty bruise on back of hand, changed color and healed up in 3 days after one treatment. 3rd case, elderly woman coming down with cold with impaired immune system, beats cold next day after treatment.

Those of you drinking diet soda - do your body a  favor and stop. Aspartame is worse for you than you can imagine

Doing some flying in the near future? Planning a getaway cruise, or a holiday go to www.gammonsgetaways.com and book with me. I appreciate your business!!

"A significant fraction of the human body is water. This body water is distributed in different compartments in the body. Lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water. Blood contains 83% water, body fat contains 25% water and bone has 22% water."

Did You know?

Soft Tissue - more specifically muscle makes up 40-50% of the body

Facelift is a cosmetic surgery procedure used by plastic surgeons to reposition sagging facial tissues and remove redundant facial skin. Medically often referred to as rhytidectomy.

Facelifts were first performed over one hundred years ago and began as simple excisions of small amounts of skin near the ears and along hairlines to tighten loose facial skin

Patients generally return to work in 1 to 4 weeks and are typically healed in 4 to 6 months

Body Balancing of Central Florida

This month I am introducing 2 specific therapeutic uses of LDT

Lymphatic Drainage Facelift - yes I said LIFT!

and

LDT Cellulite Treatment.

The facelift techniques are amazingly soothing and beneficial for those who want another option to do the surgical operation. But for those who are planning to do the surgical path as well as those that already have, this treatment can improve healing time and comfort during the healing process.
This treatment under my hands, have had the following effects, extreme lightening of under eye dark circles (to the point of disappearing), shrinking the visible appearance of wrinkles, reducing the puffiness of eyelids, tightening sagging jaw tissue. The whole treatment allows the skin to recover its anti gravity ability and enjoy a well working environment that restrains toxicity of environment and allows your beauty to shine through.

and now CELLULITE!

There are creams, and vacuums, and salves oh my! But, anecdotal evidence & research shows a common consensus that none of them work. It takes diet, exercise, and rehydration to make a long lasting effect. By softening the connective tissue (containers) and encouraging the draining effect, cellulite's bumpy appearance reduces and with diet and exercise the area can enjoy a healthy and smooth appearance.

There will be an introductory offer for 1 month, before adjusting. The introductory offer will be 3 sessions for $200, which will go up to $240 in October. They will be good until the new year but need to be used consecutively. These sessions need 3 dedicated sessions as they go through different stages, detoxification & Drain, rehydrate and balance, restore.

On another note: I have noticed things over the last few months that have elicited a change in my approach to trigger points and ischemic tissue. Trigger point (TrP) work can be painful and certainly uncomfortable under the best of circumstances. Recently with the addition of LDT in many of my treatments I have found that rehydrating the tissue reduces the density of the muscle bearing a TrP as well as the elasticity of the musculature. This makes the muscle in question much less sensitive and easier for me to work on it and you to be worked on. This qualifies for ischemic tissue as well (ischemia is a restriction in blood supply, and by effect a restriction in fluids period) In the past ischemia has been successfully treated by "stripping" the tissue. Yes, it is as painful as it sounds. But as of late 1 treatment of only a few minutes reduced the ischemia almost as quickly, with no pain whatsoever.

"The lymphatic system is a major component of the immune system."

"The causes are poorly understood, and several changes in metabolism and physiology may cause cellulite or contribute to cellulite. Among these are a disorder of water metabolism, abnormal fibrosity of the connective tissue, and chronic venous insufficiency."

"The lymph system depends on deep breathing, peristalsis and the movement of skeletal muscles, to squeeze fluid through lymph ducts and vessels."

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy

First, the FaceLIFT. The over all goal of LDT facelift is to restore a healthy balance to the tissue. It is done by supporting the open flow of the lymphatic pathways, while encouraging the draining aspect. Draining the excess fluid not only removes lost proteins, toxins, cellular waste and excess fluid it allows new fluid to rehydrate tissue, (out with the bad in with the good.)

For those that want the surgery - the LDT facelift techniques (same as above) clear and balance the pre-surgical environment. This offers the surgeon a "cleaner" interstitial environment, which can mean a "cleaner cut" potentially smaller scars, and less complications. Post surgically it improves healing time up to 50%, reduces normal post surgical edema, and offers well needed relaxation for the recipient.

The techniques are the same, the uses are different, the results are beautiful.

Cellulite. A little internet research shows a common denominator, restriction in the lymphatics ability exacerbates the prominence of cellulite and inhibits its ability to drain off excesses. English translation - when the lymphatics become overloaded or restricted in cellulite prone areas It appears more prominently. (Personally I suspect that it also creates the environment for it too.) Cellulite is a symptom not the problem. By softening the stress hardened fat containers we improve the look, and the body's ability to process the excess fat tissue and drain off the toxins that it surrounds. It is a process that works by helping your body do its job naturally, not "inflicting" a change that your body has to heal from. What can I say,... It works.

Contrary to typical health care treatments of today that treats symptoms not the problems the face lift and cellulite treatment ARE the side effects, the symptoms. The real problem is a locally compromised lymphatic system. The techniques used are to treat the lymphatic system and the side effect is your beauty coming to the surface and not being weighed down by symptoms!

These are impressively effective treatments that de-stress and improves overall health, while it supports your beauty as a wonderful side effect. They work from the same approach, improve the texture of the skin by balancing and supporting the underlying lymphatic systems. Healing bottom up. (no pun intended) :)

Preemptive actions

Rubbing the last part of the trapezius (before you reach the shoulder) can ease the trigger points that refer to the same location as the masseter muscle.

Masseter trigger points and referred pain pattern

Masseter trigger points can also increase muscle tension to such an extent that it restricts opening of the jaw. This jaw tightness encourages tightness in the vocal mechanism. Singers have reported hitting their high notes with greater ease after they've worked on their masseter's and other jaw muscles.

Masseter trigger points cause pain in both upper and lower teeth. They are also a common source of tooth hypersensitivity to heat, cold, and touch. Misinterpretation of these symptoms can result in unnecessary dental work, including needless tooth extraction. Masseter trigger points may cause you to neglect to brush and floss sensitive teeth, which can lead to their deterioration.

Muscle of the month

Masseter is the strongest muscle in the body relative to its size. The two masseters together exert a biting force of nearly one hundred-fifty pounds of pressure - enough to bite off a finger! The masseter is the primary chewing muscle and is used in speaking and swallowing.

Located on the side of the mandible, the square shaped masseter is composed of two overlapping bellies.

The superficial belly can be accessed from the face the deep belly is palpable from inside the mouth. The masseter is situated deep to the parotid gland, yet is easily palpable.

*Parotid gland is responsible for much of the lymphatic draining of the face. Excessively deep work here or chronic tightness will restrict draining flow.

REFERRED PAIN from trigger points (TrP’s) in the superficial layer of the masseter muscle may be projected to the eyebrow, maxilla (portion of face that includes the bony area that surrounds the nose), and mandible (jaw) anteriorly, and to the upper or lower molar teeth, which become hypersensitive to pressure and temperature change. In the deep layer of the muscle, TrP’s refer pain deep in the ear and to the region of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). ANATOMICAL ATTACHMENTS of the masseter are located, above, on the zygomatic arch (outer cheek bone) and maxilla and, below, on the outer surface of the ramus and angle of the mandible. ACTIONS of the masseter (superficial fibers) are primarily to elevate the jaw, and for the deep fibers to pull it back. SYMPTOMS of active TrP’s in this muscle are chiefly pain and trismus (lock jaw). Unilateral tinnitus (ringing of the ear (s)) may be a symptom of TrP’s high in the deep portion of the muscle. ACTIVATION OF TRIGGER POINTS results from gross trauma, the microtrauma of bruxism (grinding your teeth) or chronic overwork, acute overload, occlusal imbalance, and holding the mandible in other than a rest position for prolonged periods.

The superficial front Line

It is easy to see how in the case history  "Mary" could shorten the superficial front line leaning over patients day after day which referred out to the masseter.

Case Study

Mary, age twenty-nine, was a dentist who was frustrated in the treatment of some of her patients who complained of tooth pain but had no problems that she could find. She also had pain in her own jaws and in her own perfectly healthy teeth. She suspected the pain was myofascial but she didn't feel competent to diagnose or treat it. In dental school, they'd been told about trigger points but hadn't spent much time on them.

A clue to Mary's own trouble lay in the chronic headaches and neck pain she had suffered  since dental school, caused by leaning over all day and twisting to look into mouths. The strain of her work had caused trigger points in her sternocleidomastoid muscles, which in turn were generating secondary trigger points in her masseter muscles. Her headaches were coming from her sternocleidomastoids, the pain in her jaws and teeth from her masseter's.

Further postural work on Mary showed a chronic pattern of locking the knee's when standing for long periods of time. This has been shown to unbalance the center of gravity creating a pattern of muscle tension manifesting in a cranial imbalance around the TM Joint. Rebalancing the cranial vault, and working to the feet rebalancing muscle by muscle created a long term resolution.
